"Pa said that the Farm wouldn't grow enough to pasture a goose. And he was right when he talked like that, and called the homeplace The Old Goose Pasture. He was right except that he forgot the important things about the place.
"He forgot that two boys saw their beginning there, and that the The Old Goose Pasture fed and sheltered us in our formative years.
"It should be such that we could preserve those happy days, as we record music and art, and play them back 'till our hearts would be content again.
"If this were so, I would turn back to that cold Winter night when Pa would be talking and chewing Prince of Wales, and Ma'd be there, with Jim and me in our rocking chairs. Old Pete and Squint and Roy would be with us, all clustered around the Old McLary, and the wind would be howling around the kitchen windows.
"Because that's exactly the way it was."
